Lakers News · Girls Swim and Dive Finishes Regular Season Strong at OAA League Meet


The Girls Swim and Dive team represented West Bloomfield well at this past week’s OAA Blue Division League finals, finishing in 3rd place out of 7 teams.  The team earned points in almost all events, thanks to the following finishes:

200 Yard Medley Relay – Avelina Valdez, Mattie Smith, Farrah Moussa, Megan Neeley, 1st place finish

200 Yard Freestyle – Megan Neeley, 2nd place finish; Farrah Moussa, 12th place finish

200 Yard Individual Medley – Mattie Smith, 1st place finish; Lauren MacDonald, 3rd place finish; Natalia Luna, 13th place finish; Bhargavi Kurkula, 14th place finish

50 Yard Freestyle – Avelina Valdez, 3rd place finish; Jasmine Lee, 6th place finish; Anjali Natarajan, 14th place finish

1 Meter Diving – Shayna Zieman, 5th place finish; Ashley Krauthamer, 6th place finish; Alexis Nyquist, 7th place finish

100 Yard Butterfly – Avelina Valdez, 6th place finish; Avery Campbell, 8th place finish; Jasmine Lee, 12th place finish

100 Yard Freestyle – Durga Shanker, 12th place finish

500 Yard Freestyle – Megan Neeley, 1st place finish; Peyton Plyer, 6th place finish; Thea Patrascu, 15th place finish

100 Yard Backstroke – Mattie Smith, 1st place finish; Farrah Moussa, 8th place finish

100 Yard Breaststroke – Lauren MacDonald, 5th place finish; Avery Campbell, 7th place finish; Natalia Luna, 10th place finish; Emily Kuzminsky, 14th place finish

400 Yard Freestyle Relay – Megan Neeley, Lauren MacDonald, Avelina Valdez, Mattie Smith, 2nd place finish

As a result of their efforts at the league meet, Mattie Smith and Megan Neeley earned individual All-League honors for the 200 Yard Individual Medley and 500 Yard Freestyle, respectively.  The 200 Yard Medley Relay squad of Avelina Valdez, Mattie Smith, Farrah Moussa, and Megan Neeley also earned All-League honors.

Earlier this season, Mattie Smith qualified to represent West Bloomfield at the upcoming Division 1 State Meet on November 16-17.  Mattie will compete in the 100 yard breaststroke at States and we wish her the best of luck!
