The West Bloomfield Lakers beat the Troy Colts 56-3 on Friday. The Lakers were lead by an offensive explosion and a scrappy defense. Niles King got things going with an interception on Troy’s first possession which gave the Lakers a short field. Mekhi Elam punched in a 4 yard touchdown run. On the ensuing possession, Alex Short scored on an amazing 11 yard touchdown run. Donovan Edwards joined the Lakers who scored with a 57 yard touchdown run on the next Laker possession. Gavin Hardeman who has been playing at a high level, intercepted a Troy pass. Short would later hit Edwards on touchdown passes of 16 and 20 yards. Maxwell Hairston joined in the fun with a 57 yard touchdown reception from Short. Jaden Green and company shut down the Colts offense all game long.
Marcus Carter added to the Laker’s scoring with a 61 yard touchdown run. Freshman Rick Nance scored from 9 yards out to give the Lakers 56 points on the night.
Jake Ward was 8/8 on point after touchdowns. Blake Nelson and Sammy Lafata were great on special teams as well.
