The Girls Varsity tennis team finally returned to the court after nearly two years. Many of the players competed in their first match of their high school career.

There were many competitive matches on the day as half of the matches went to super tiebreakers. Getting the first win on the season for the team was Sydney Liberman with a 6-3, 6-4 win at 1 singles. Navya Paingol also was credited with a win at 4 singles by default. An honorable mention goes to Reet Grewal who fell in three sets at 3 singles.

The doubles teams worked through some very windy conditions. Despite the difficulty of the weather, the teams came out with 3 wins. The 1 doubles of Maddie Sandberg and Raksha Sridharan made a comeback with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 win. The 2 doubles team of Melanie Costello and Shino Ohta stayed consistent with two 6-4 sets. Arianna Bice and Maeha Sridharan made their debuts and fell in a super tiebreaker 5-7,6-3, 10-5.

The match was tied 4-4 with one match left. Fortunately for the Lakers, the 5 doubles team of Alexis McCallion and Samantha Smiley fought off four match points to win 6-3, 6-7(5), 11-9. This win would bring home the win for the Lakers.

Congrats to the whole team for a valiant effort. The team is 1-0, (0-0) on the year and will play Plymouth Salem at home this Thursday at 4pm. Come out and support your Lady Lakers!
