The West Bloomfield Boys Cross Country team captured a share of the OAA Blue Division championship by finishing second at the OAA Blue League meet at Hess Hathaway Park in Waterford on Saturday, October 17th. The Lakers entered the day with a 5-0 record, narrowly defeating Avondale in a head to head matchup via tiebreaker after a 28-28 score. On Saturday’s league championship meet, Avondale edged out West Bloomfield 65-67, resulting in each team earning a share of the league title. The meet was incredibly close, with only 9 points separating 1st place from 4th.

Leading West Bloomfield and earning all-conference honors were sophomore Sebastian Cervelli (2nd, 17:45), senior Nick Gastaris (6th, 18:10) and Darius Sharif (11th, 18:37). Also coming through in the clutch were senior Aran Mizrahi (22nd, 19:28) and sophomore Jonathan Holland (30th, 19:50) to complete the scoring for WB.

The following athletes had standout performances at the race, running a season or personal best time: Nick Gastaris, Darius Sharif, Aran Mizrahi, Lokesh Ravindran and Ryan Shippy.

West Bloomfield Varsity Cross Country next competes at the Pre-regional meet at Kensington Metropark in Milford on Friday, October 23rd.

The WB junior varsity teams wrap up their season with a meet against Beverly Hills Groves on Wednesday, October 21st at Hess Hathaway Park in Waterford.
