The West Bloomfield JV Girls Lacrosse team kicked off its season in dominant fashion yesterday, securing an 8-5 victory over the Grosse Isle Red Devils. The Lakers wasted no time getting on the board, as sophomore Lexi Hughes netted the first goal of the game for the Lakers in the opening quarter. Just before the buzzer, junior Noore Alotabi added another, scoring with only 16 seconds left to give the Lakers early momentum. West Bloomfield carried that energy into the second quarter, where sophomore Ava Nelander found the back of the net to extend the lead. At halftime, the Lakers held a narrow 3-2 advantage. The game broke open in the third quarter, with the Lakers’ offense and midfield coming alive. Juniors Emma Schwartz and Eva Zimnicki, along with freshman Becca Barber, each put up goals in a strong scoring surge that put West Bloomfield firmly in control. The Lakers continued to apply pressure in the fourth, as Nelander and Hughes each scored their second goals of the game to seal the win. Defensively, West Bloomfield delivered an impressive performance. Freshman goalie Ryan Hill stood out with an outstanding 64% save rate, well above the typical 40-50% average. Newcomers Natalie Holder and Thaylen Brenner also made key plays, helping to shut down Grosse Isle’s attack and midfield players. While both teams battled hard from start to finish, the Red Devils ultimately couldn't match the Lady Lakers. Come see us after spring break for our second game at home on Wednesday, April 8th, at 5:30 pm.
