In the varsity matchup, West Bloomfield battled to a gritty 5-5 tie in a game defined by physical play and standout defense. Sophomore goalie Owen Dery delivered a stellar performance between the pipes, making a series of highlight-reel saves to keep the Lakers in contention throughout the night. Dery’s efforts were supported by a strong defensive unit led by Ian Hamann, Nick Voorhees, and Captain Aidan Moran, who consistently stepped up with crucial stops and disciplined play. The defensive intensity extended to ground ball control, where Aidan Snead led the team with 5 ground balls, followed by Nick Voorhees with 4, and Aidan Moran adding 4 of his own—key contributions that helped maintain possession in a tightly contested game. Offensively, scoring was sparked early by sophomore Gavin Anderson, who opened the game with his lone goal of the night. Faceoff specialist Drew Dean played a pivotal role, taking 14 faceoffs and scoring, including the final goal of the game, with one coming directly off the draw. Captain and leading scorer Kyle Geiser added to his season tally with back-to-back goals spanning the third and fourth quarters, helping the Lakers maintain momentum in a tightly contested battle. West Bloomfield will look to build on the JV’s undefeated start and the varsity team’s resilient performance as they continue their season.
