Lakers Track and Field Competes in OAA Blue-Gold Championship

The boys and girls track & field teams competed at the OAA Blue-Gold Championships @ Oak Park High School on Thursday, May 7th. The boys scored 75 points and placed 3rd overall, while the girls scored 107 points and placed 2nd overall. The boys were highlighted by 16 athletes earning all-league honors, medals in 13 events and 3 event runner-ups. The girls were highlighted by 17 athletes earning all-league honors, medals in 12 events, 3 event champions, 1 school record and 3 EQ’s “early qualifier". Your “LAKERS OF THE MEET” are: Boys: Alex Kemp / Alex placed 2nd in the 110m hurdles (with a NEW PB time of 14.93) and 4th in the 300m hurdles. Girls: 400m relay / The quartet of Ese Uwedjojevwe, Mahrei Sampson, Kamryn Tatum & Lauryn Choice placed 2nd in the 400m relay. The 400m relay also beat the EQ “early qualifier” standard and qualified for the MHSAA State Finals. Kamryn Tatum / Kamryn placed 1st and EQ’d in both the 100m dash & 200m dash. She also broke her own school record in the 200m dash and ran on the 400m relay. She has now EQ’d in five events this season: 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 400m relay & 800m relay. Layla Sharif / Layla placed 1st in the discus and 2nd in the shot put. The meet is on Friday, May 15th. Time schedule: 1pm - Pole Vault, 2:00pm - All other field events, 4:00pm - 3200m relay, 4:30pm - Running prelims and 6:00pm - Running finals.
