West Bloomfield Varsity Softball dropped a wild back-and-forth contest to Ferndale, 17-15, on Tuesday afternoon despite pounding out 16 hits and stealing 25 bases as a team. The Lakers showed tremendous fight throughout the game, erasing an early deficit with an eight-run second inning to take a 9-7 lead. Nevaeh Nieradka highlighted the rally with a two-run double as West Bloomfield’s aggressive approach at the plate and on the basepaths kept pressure on Ferndale all afternoon. West Bloomfield regained the lead multiple times during the game, including a strong fifth inning sparked by Joy Jones, who doubled to center field before stealing home. Anna Bilkey added an RBI single later in the inning. Lili Rodriguez tripled during a two-run sixth inning rally, while Nieradka continued her huge day at the plate with another RBI double. Nieradka finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Lakers offensively. Anna Bilkey collected four hits, while Analizabeth Rodriguez, Lili Rodriguez, and Kylah Kareem each added multiple-hit performances. West Bloomfield also showed patience at the plate, drawing 13 walks during the contest. Defensively, the Lakers played one of their cleanest games of the season, finishing without committing an error. Despite the loss, West Bloomfield continued to show offensive growth, aggressive baserunning, and improved competitiveness heading into the final stretch of the season.
