West Bloomfield Varsity Lady Lakers dropped the opening game of Thursday’s doubleheader to Athens, 20-3, on Senior Night at West Bloomfield High School. Despite the final score, the Lakers continued to battle offensively throughout the game. Anna Donley, Kylah Kareem, and Anna Bilkey each collected hits for West Bloomfield, while Analizabeth Rodriguez and Kareem each drove in a run. The Redhawks jumped ahead early and were led offensively by Sommer Swanson, who hit two inside-the-park home runs in the contest. Lili Rodriguez got the start in the circle for the Lakers and continued battling through all four innings against one of the OAA’s top offensive lineups.
