West Bloomfield Varsity Lady Lakers dropped the opening game of Friday’s doubleheader to Berkley, 18-1, at West Bloomfield High School. Despite the final score, the Lakers continued to show aggressiveness on the bases and solid defensive effort throughout the contest. Joy Jones and Nevaeh Nieradka each collected hits for West Bloomfield, while Analizabeth Rodriguez and Jones each stole multiple bases as the Lakers finished with nine stolen bases as a team. Defensively, West Bloomfield played a clean game without committing an error, with Lili Rodriguez leading the team in fielding chances. Jaelynn Randolph started in the circle for the Lakers and continued battling against a tough Berkley lineup that broke the game open with a 10-run third inning. West Bloomfield closes the regular season next week with continuation games against Ferndale before turning its attention toward district tournament play.
